Choose your village before your suite

The location changes the character of a mountain holiday. Courchevel comprises several villages; St Moritz sits within the wider Engadin landscape. Decide whether you want immediate mountain access, walkable dining or the privacy of a chalet, then compare properties within that setting.

Define what ski access really means

Ask the property to describe the route from your room to the slopes. Is there a short walk, a shuttle, stairs or a piste suitable only for confident skiers? Access can vary with snow conditions. Arrange qualified instruction and suitable equipment independently of any promises made by a room category.

Plan for the non-skiers, too

An enjoyable group escape works for everyone. Consider spa time, village walks, galleries, scenic viewpoints and long lunches. Confirm that the activities you want operate on your dates. Summer brings an entirely different mountain holiday, so do not assume a winter itinerary carries across.

Allow the journey to set the pace

Road and rail approaches have different advantages. Compare the complete door-to-door journey, luggage handling and final hotel connection. Winter weather can affect road conditions; a tightly scheduled arrival leaves little room for disruption. A relaxed first evening is often the best luxury.

Give the calendar some attention

An event can make a stay memorable, but it can also change availability and the feel of a village. Check the official destination calendar, then confirm dates with the organiser. Leave unscheduled time to enjoy the mountain setting rather than filling every hour.
